

Bladder stones are fairly common in pets. Sometimes they don’t show clinical signs. But when they do, the most common presenting signs are increase urge to urinate and/or blood in the urine. Occasionally, they can cause obstruction (which is an emergency).

There are many types of stones , calcium based stone and struvite being the most common. Bladder stone formation is multifactorial but one way to control microscopic crystal formation in the first place is to control the pH of the urine.

4 bladder stones were surgically removed and this patient made full recovery. It is also important to prevent stones reformation via diet modification and regular urine analysis for monitoring.
